Warwickshire Angler Andy Lewis went out to christen his new Drennan Matchpro Ultralight 15ft rod over the Christmas period, and enjoyed a really memorable Perch session!
Andy lives near Rugby, and despite the wet weather was determined to get out fishing during the holiday “the majority of society were at home staying dry” he quipped – “It was no surprise that I had the lake to myself”.
Tackling up with his new 15ft Matchpro Ultralight and a centrepin reel loaded with 4lb Supplex line, he combined it with a delicate 1g polefloat. This was gently lowered onto a spot in the margins baited with a mixture of prawn, maggot & worm mash – and approached very quietly!
A whole prawn on a size 8 Super Specialist hook was the selected hookbait; only for Andy to bump off his first bite – we all know that feeling of frustration! But there was no mistake with the next opportunity and Andy’s endeavours were rewarded with this tremendous Perch of 3lb 2oz. Further handsome fish of 2lb 3oz and around 1lb 8oz completed a memorable 4 hour session.
“Not a bad way to break in a new rod” remarked Andy.
