Barbel are famed for their savage bites, but this 19lb 2oz middle Trent specimen gave Andrew Degville just a few taps on the rod tip. Fishing an 18mm boilie and a PVA bag of freebies, Andrew knew right away he was into something good when he picked up the rod. He struggled to get the fish to surface as it bored for the riverbed.
Eventually though, the fish tired and he managed to slip it into the net after a 10-minute battle. The fish smashes his previous PB of 15lb 14oz.
