“An intense battle, as a good fish powered for the snags downstream and the roots below”
Having watched the forecast, river levels and water temperature, Hampshire angler Alex Warren decided conditions would be best suited for chub, and his verdict was proved true later that day when he banked this 8lb specimen.
Targeting his local Avon, Alex worked four swims in succession after lightly baiting them and settled into the most likely when the light began to fade. Fishing a Spam hookbait below a blockend feeder loaded with mashed spam and fishmeal base mix, he cast to a crease formed by fallen trees either side.
After a few finicky indications on the tip, he received a positive bite and set the hook. An intense battle followed, as a good fish powered for the snags downstream and the roots below. Finally landing it, his legs went to jelly when he lay it on the mat. Weighing 8lb exactly, it beats Alex’s previous PB of 7lb 14oz.
Well done Alex!
