On a recent small midweek competition at Lindholme Lakes I had the perfect opportunity to try out a tip Drennan’s Gary Barclay had told me about concerning hollow elastics.

Now to say I had been having a bit of mare with the green hollow is an under statement!  I love it for F1’s, but I was having problems with it hanging out of the pole at times, and found myself constantly needing to adjust it, just to get it to creep back inside the pole, and unfortunately after several adjustments the elastic ended up being too tight. I’d tried different things including water, but found myself replacing the Bungee elastic on a regular basis, due to signs of wear.

Gary told me he uses the Drennan Slick to treat the elastic, which makes it last up to a season and it returns into the pole perfectly smooth every time. So with this information I made up a couple of tops with Drennan’s new puller bungs to give the elastic another try.

Through the winter months I nearly always use Preston double 5 elastic, but as the weather warms up and the odd carp starts to show, a change to hollow gives me extra stretch and insurance if you hook a lump or two. Once the elastic had been well coated by spraying up the base of the number three section and letting it run right up to the bush I started to fish.  What a difference ! I sat there just chuckling to myself on how well the elastic performed, not once did it hang out, it was as smooth as silk and 60lb later it was still perfect, what a transformation.

It made me wonder how many other people were experiencing the same problems as me with this type of elastic. I didn’t win the match, it was won by a brilliant 90lb by Steve Mazza but I was probably the happiest man on the bank knowing I had cured an ongoing problem with my hollow elastics.

Lors d’une récente petite compétition de milieu de semaine à ‘Lindholme Lakes’ j’ai eu la parfaite opportunité d’essayer une astuce que Gary Barclay, de chez Drennan, m’avait donné à propos des élastiques creux.

Dire aujourd’hui que j’ai rencontré des difficultés avec l’élastique creux vert c’est peu dire ! Je l’apprécie énormément pour les carpes F1, mais j’ai eu des problèmes avec car il pendait parfois au bout de la canne et je devais constamment l’ajuster pour qu’il rentre à nouveau à l’intérieur et malheureusement après plusieurs ajustements, l’élastique finissait par être trop serré. J’ai essayé différentes choses dont l’eau, mais je me suis retrouvé à remplacer l’élastique Bungee régulièrement suite à des signes d’usure.
Gary m’a dit qu’il utilisait le lubrifiant Drennan pour traiter l’élastique, ce qui lui permet de durer toute une saison et de rentrer parfaitement dans la canne à chaque fois. Avec cette information j’ai donc monté quelques sections avec le nouveau ‘Pull Bung’ (tire-élastique) Drennan pour faire un nouvel essai avec l’élastique.

Pendant les mois d’hiver, j’ai presque toujours utilisé l’élastique Preston double 5, mais lorsque les températures remontent et que les premières carpes commencent à se montrer, le changement pour un élastique creux me donne plus d’élasticité et d’assurance si j’accroche un ou deux gros poissons. Une fois que l’élastique a bien été enduit, en vaporisant la base de la section numéro 3 et en le laissant remonter jusqu’à la tulipe, je commence à pêcher. Quelle différence ! Je restais assis là à me sourire à moi-même en voyant à quel point l’élastique se comportait bien, pas une fois je l’ai vu pendre, il était aussi lisse que de la soie et 60lb plus tard il était toujours parfait, quelle transformation.

Cela m’a amené à me demander combien d’autres personnes ont rencontré le même problème que moi avec ce type d’élastique. Je n’ai pas gagné le match, il a été remporté par un magnifique poisson de 90lb par Steve Mazza, mais j’étais sans doute le plus heureux des hommes sur la rive sachant que j’avais solutionné un problème que j’avais depuis quelques temps avec mes élastiques.
