England Feeder Team member, Dean Barlow gives his advice on using braid for feeder fishing.
As braid has no stretch, it is perfect for fishing at distance. The lack of stretch gives me great bite indication and I can see every single knock on the tip. This not only enables me to hit more bites, but it gives me a much better idea of what is going on in the swim.
When using braid I opt for a very low diameter. I like to use around 0.10 braid for general fishing and 0.08 for extreme distance fishing.
I like to use braid straight through when fishing for small fish at a short distance as there is no need for a shock leader. But for long distance fishing, I use an 8lb shock leader which is generally the length of the rod plus a few extra turns.
