This winter, England International lure angler Adam Seeley set his sights on a huge zander, with his aim being a fish over 15lb. It’s safe to say he’s smashed that target out the water, having banked this fish of 16lb 10oz.

Fishing the River Trent at night, he arrived at an area he knows holds good fish, and opted for a heavy duty dropshot rig, knowing the species loves a lure presented over their heads. After a few hours without a hit, he switched to a smaller and brighter pattern, which quickly brought a four-pounder to the bank. On his very next cast, Adam had what he describes as an ‘ungodly’ bite, with the lure being hit savagely as a big zander connected. It peeled line as it neared the bank, but eventually he coaxed a huge zander ‘the shape of a perch’ into the waiting net.
Well done Adam!
