Features beneath the surface can be key areas to target when specimen fishing, as Adam Jones proved with this 4lb 14oz 8dr perch, caught over a mussel bed.
He’d found the attractive feature along a mooring in some slack water, and in an hour’s fishing landed some cracking perch with his friend Rory, but the best was yet to come.
As he worked his skirted jig over the bank of mussels it was smashed by something that held deep the whole way in, which got Adam’s heart racing. When this ‘tank’ of a perch surfaced, Adam knew he was connected to a huge fish, but he wasn’t prepared for the needle of his scales to pause just right before the astonishing five-pound mark, a real honesty fish.
Well done Adam!
