Drennan Team England are competing in the 63rd World Championship this weekend on the 17th and 18th September.
The event is on the Plovdiv Rowing Coarse in Bulgaria, approximately an hour’s drive from the capital of Sofia.
The experienced six-man squad includes Alan Scotthorne, William Raison, Sean Ashby, Steve Hemingray, Des Shipp and Callum Dicks with co-managers Mark Addy and Mark Downes. The team will be trying their very best to improve on the hard-earned bronze medal they gained in last year’s World Championship held in Slovenia. The team are also in good spirits after a silver-medal performance at this year’s European Championship in Holland.
A lot of restocking has occurred at the venue since England’s Tom Pickering won the World Championship there way back in 1989. The target species should predominantly be carp and both the pole and waggler will come into play in this float-only event. It is expected to be extremely hot, too, with temperatures approaching 33 degrees at the weekend!
We’ll be posting regular updates on the Drennan website, Twitter and Facebook pages. With well over 30 nations involved it promises to be an exciting match!
