Thanks to accomplished Chub angler (and Science Teacher) Christian Barker, who hails from Suffolk – for these lovely Summer Chub photos, caught with brilliant natural baits & stalking tactics! Christian has some years experience on the lovely River Gipping, a little-known river in the Ipswich countryside. Christian has enjoyed a stunning start to the new river season catching numerous 5lb+ chub in the opening weeks – the ‘in’ method being freelined snails cast to visible fish! Great value and highly effective bait if you can be bothered to collect them in the wet grass! Christian likes to use 6lb Drennan Super Specialist line for the job, plus an original Drennan Super Specialist 12ft 1.5lb rod.
Having spent quite a bit of time observing the fish at close range on the river leading up to the 16th, Christian has now reaped the rewards having located several superb fish, which he has then been able to cast to at short range with the aid of a stealthy approach! He was also able to take the fantastic picture below of Chub in the process of spawning – a superb photograph (this was taken prior to the season starting).
