Shaun McNaughton (Thornaby) and Graham Airey (Billingham) both live close to the River Tees in the North East of England, and together took a fine haul of river Bream to start the season!
Fishing a local stretch of the River, which is an ideal Bream venue now that the Tees Barrage restricts the influence of the tides, Shaun took around 20 ‘slabs’ and Graham 22, with fish averaging 3lb to 4lb for a really superb river haul. Both lads used traditional feeder fishing methods, utilizing chopped worm and caster with a sweet groundbait mix and Dendra worm hookbaits, fishing at a range of around 40 yards.
Both lads used Drennan DRX Feeder rods – Shaun the 11ft 6ins Stillwater model (which has a lovely soft action ideal for Bream), and Graham an 11ft 10ins DRX River Feeder. Both these classic rods are sadly now several years out of production, the current version being the Matchpro Medium Feeder 12ft, you can find its details here.
