Barclay’s Biggest Pole-Caught Common

gary-barclay-carpDrennan’s Gary Barclay recently caught this magnificent 18lb 4oz common carp with his new Acolyte Carp pole.

“This is now my biggest ever pole-caught carp,” The well-respected matchman commented, after a memorable test session at top Oxford venue, Rolf’s Lake. “I thought it may have been 20lb, but I certainly wasn’t disappointed when the scales settled on 18lb 4oz.

“I caught it on a single grain of corn fished on the deck at 13 metres after regularly dump-potting a mixture of 4mm pellets and corn. It tore off as soon as I lifted into the bite. I knew immediately that it was either foul-hooked or very very big! Even when the elastic bottomed out on its first run, though, I never felt like the pole was ever in any trouble.”

Gary used a 0.4g AS2 float on 0.18mm Supplex line to a 0.16mm Fluorocarbon hooklength, size 16 Wide Gape Pellet hook and pink Carp Bungee elastic.
