After receiving a new 9ft float rod for Christmas, Connor Sweeney ventured out to test the rod on his local River Wey, where he trotted maggots to catch this superb chub of 7lb 7oz.It’s a huge fish for any river but is a particularly rare specimen on the diminutive Wey.
He’d spent time priming the swim with regular handfuls of maggots before making his first cast. He lost the first two fish he hooked, but at the end of a trot he hooked a fish that have heavy thuds. Thankfully, his hook held this time, and a few minutes later he had the brute of a chub in the net.
