Despite waking up feeling ‘rough as hell’ with the flu, Stephen Gibbons ventured out in temperatures of -5C and was rewarded with this stunning 3lb 2oz grayling.

It was caught from a Scottish rive,r a long way from Stephen’s home in Norfolk. Having made such effort to get there, he was keen to fish despite feeling unwell. Undeterred by rod rings freezing up, he soon landed a few good ‘twos’ on trotted maggots alongside minimal feed, before connecting with the three-pounder just before 10am at the end of a long trot. It fought well, but his size 16 hook and 4lb fluorocarbon hooklink held, and he was soon slipping the net under the impressive fish.
Well done Stephen!
