Over the last 20 years, Chris smith has been chasing a roach over 2lb from a small Lincolnshire river, but the closest he’d come was a fish of 1lb 10oz. That all changed on a recent trip, during which he obliterated his target with this fish of 2lb 14oz.

He’d popped down to the waterway with his son, with the simple plan of showing him how to trot a float with a centrepin. Fishing a 6 x No.4 stick float on 4lb line to a size 16 hook, Chris had a bite a short way into the trot as his float passed some reeds and hooked a fish he initially thought was a chub. However, as it rolled into the net, he realised it was a huge roach. Chris added that the fish had the potential to hit the 3lb mark in peak condition.
Well done Chris!
