Daniel Bouskila 3lb Grayling

Of all the freshwater fish in Britain, arguably the most synonymous with winter fishing is the grayling. But Daniel Bouskila proved that they can be caught to impressive sizes in summer too, after he landed this fish of 3lb exactly.
It was taken from a weedy stretch of a chalk stream on nymphing tactics, with Daniel targeting a small clear run between a dense bed of water crowfoot and a deeply undercut bank.Flicking his grub pattern upstream, it drifted perfectly into the undercut, and just as Daniel was straining to see it, a large, dark shape emerged and nailed his fly.

Setting the hook, it was immediately apparent he’d hooked a good fish, as it bolted for cover. Daniel had no choice but to hold firm and winced at the pressure on his light lines as they whined in the breeze. Eventually, he got the better of the fish, before landing it in a cramped spot amongst overhung trees.

Whilst he rested the fish in the net, Daniel couldn’t resist another cast and soon added a second grayling of 2lb 8oz. What a session!

Well done Daniel!
