Roger Mellon 2lb 10oz Roach

Early in the season, Roger Mellon located a shoal of big roach on a stretch of the Thames and caught fish to 2lb 3oz on maggots and small pellets. But in between those larger fish, he was also landing much smaller ones. So to single out the larger residents, he switched to 12mm pellets.
These were fished alongside a feeder, and he loose fed free offerings over the top.
For the first hour of his session he hadn’t caught any small roach, and as the light faded his rod tip wrapped confidently round. Initially, Roger wondered if he’d connected with a small barbel, but when the fish surfaced, he was shocked to see a huge roach.
At 2lb 10oz, it’s a massive fish for summer, and one that Roger reckons would top the three-pound mark in winter.

Well done Roger!
