Living near the Dorset Stour is the dream of many big fish anglers, and Gary Wright has certainly been making the most of his home in the area, landing this 18lb 3oz 8dr barbel.
The famous Throop fisheries is just a few minutes’ bike ride from his door, although he’s spent most of his years fishing free stretches of the Stour. This season however, he joined Ringwood & District AA and has enjoyed their waters over the last few months.
This fish is his best yet and the biggest ever caught from the Stour, with his scales verified after the capture. It fell to a Klips boilie hookbait fished alongside a PVA bag of pellets. It gave a great fight, running downstream before sticking to the riverbed.
Well done Gary!
