Due to floods, Iestyn Jones’ pike campaign had been put on hold. However, when levels on his local River Wye dropped, he made no hesitation to get out and was rewarded with this 30lb 12oz specimen.
It’s his second ‘thirty’ from the venue, having had a fish of 30lb 8oz from there last year. The Aberdare angler targeted a deep slack where a tree had come down and taken part of the bank away, a classic area for big pike. At 8:30am, his float-fished herring was picked up and as soon as he struck, he was met with the resistance of a solid fish that held deep before surfacing in a heart-stopping moment before slipping her in the net.
Well done Lestyn!
