Barbel are well known for their brutal bites, but occasionally the largest of fish can give relatively delicate indications, as this 15lb 9oz River Derwent fish did for Tom Hague.
The West Yorkshire based angler, received a very slow run before hooking the special fish. It took a 15mm boilie fished alongside a PVA bag filled with 8mm halibut pellets, and for the first few minutes of the fight, Tom was sure he’d hooked a small fish. However, when it suddenly started stripping line, he caught a glimpse of it and knew right away he was connected to a new PB.
Having landed a barbel of 9lb 4oz earlier in the session, the size of this fish totally eclipsed that. It’s believed to be the largest landed from this stretch of the Derwent so far this season.
Well done Tom!
