Many thanks to England Feeder Team ace Dean Barlow for sending us these great photos from a recent trip to the River Don.
“A magazine feature took me to the River Don recently, a venue I haven’t fished for a good few years. When I got there I was greeted by a very low and clear river with a howling wind so conditions wasn’t perfect.
I settled for a feeder approach and as the river was so clear I decided to go for a micro cage so not to over feed the fish. A long tail is always good in clear water as the fish watch your bait as it’s falling through, so small hooks and thin lines are needed for these wary fish.
My choice was a size 20 wide gape match attached to 0.104 double strength, two dead red maggots were impaled on to the hook which accounted for a couple of big skimmers and some smaller samples.“
