James Aris Sub-Zero Temperature Chub Session

Buckinghamshire specimen angler James Aris was out Chub fishing after work recently in really tough, subzero temperatures (check the colour of his hands!) so was pleased with this decent fish!

James bagged three Chub on the River Great Ouse with simple quiver-tipped breadflake tactics using his trusty Series 7 Specialist Avon Quiver 12ft 1¼lb fitted with a sensitive 3/4oz tip. Where the flow allows, using a more sensitive feeder tip is a really effective ‘edge’ as it means cute Chub bites are often significantly easier to hit, as they ‘hang on’ longer when not alerted by the feel of a stiff rod tip. A simple link leger and a size 6 Carbon Specimen hook baited with fresh breadflake completed the strategy.

Drennan push-in feedertips are available from ½ oz upwards, and fit virtually the whole range of Drennan rods (and those of some other manufacturers, we understand!)
