Sussex ace Simon Buckman with his latest specimen – this fierce looking Perch caught on a Series 7 Specialist Avon Quiver 12ft 1¼lb rod winning a weekly Drennan Cup award in last week’s Angling Times!

After already winning weekly awards for specimen river Barbel & Roach earlier this year, Simon is enjoying a really tremendous season. For the Perch he fished one of his local Sussex commercial fisheries with Prawn hookbaits presented on low resistance ¼ oz running leger rigs, incorporating a 6lb Supplex hooklength and a size 8 ESP D7 hook. The swim was baited up with chopped prawns and red maggots, and after numerous smaller fish over several visits he finally hooked the big fish he craved.

“I really thought I’d hooked another of the venue’s carp when my hanger pulled up, but when it surfaced a few yards out I knew exactly what I was attached to!” explained Simon.
