A surprise carp helped Pete Morris win the Drennan Coors Masters Charity Match, held on the River Trent at Burton.

A good turnout of 68 anglers fished on the Sherratts, Andressy, Municipal, Baileys, Branston Golf Course and Crown Meadow sections. Leading the pack was Pete Morris with a carp-assisted 19lb from peg 12 on Municipal. Pete had lost a carp earlier while fishing for perch, so stepped up to a 0.18mm hooklength on the pole and was rewarded with an 11lb 8oz specimen.

In second place was Anthony White with 13lb from peg 23 in the same section. He had the misfortune of losing five big perch, but managed plenty of roach, dace, chublets and small perch on a whip with maggots, before changing to stick float and then a waggler.

Ian Phillips was third with 12lb 8oz of waggler and maggot caught roach and chublets from peg 2 on Anderson peg 2.

A special mention to match organiser Tony Vandome and his daughter Dorrie who, along with many others, helped to raise £1,741 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Also to John Taylor and the tenant community at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park who helped raised over £1,000 for this worthy cause.
