Norfolk based specimen angler Josh Fisher proves how effective trotting can be for chub, when he put together an impressive haul of 30 chub in one session!
Josh explained that Saturday was a bit of a disaster fishing wise. So he decided to get out the following day. He decided to try and beat his personal best for the amount of chub caught in a single day (14).
“I was off to a brilliant start and I had taken 12 chub by 11am! In some swims I would take up to 4 fish on consecutive trots, it was brilliant fishing. Although the chub averaged only around 3lb – 4lb, with a few slightly bigger and smaller ones thrown in.”
“Around an hour before dark I had reached 24, and knew I had to try for 30. Luckily I hit a small pocket of chub and managed to quickly get up to 29. However it then become too dark to see a float, so I removed it and just pinched a shot on the line. I flicked a piece of crust under a small bush and shortly after the line twitched, and number 30 was shortly in the net!”
Josh used a simple float setup with a Drennan N01 Loafer float, 3lb 4oz Super Specialist Super Mono and a size 14 Boilie Hook. He fished a piece of bread flake on the hook and fed small balls of liquidised bread to draw the chub into the swim.
