Drennan Barnsley Blacks and Drennan North West have sealed their places in the Angling Trust Winter League Final after two strong team performances in last weekend’s Semi Finals.
The first Northern Semi was held at Garbolino Lindholme Lakes and saw Maver Midlands put on an outstanding team display to win with 85-points. Close behind was the newly sponsored Drennan Barnsley Blacks outfit, who secured a solid second with 79 points and that all-important qualification.
On the individual front, Drennan Barnsley’s Lee Harrison showed his awesome consistency in Semi Finals by winning the match – just like he did last year at Makins Fishery! He drew Peg H10 on Bonsai (Permanent Peg 28) and had a very simple five hours, fishing 6mm cubes of meat on the short pole for a 65.75kg netful of mostly quality F1s.
The other Northern Semi was switched from the Stainforth & Keadby Canal at Crowle to the more in-form Grand Union Canal at Loughborough. Drennan North West put on a solid display on the towpath to end up third, behind Shakespeare Superteam and Wigan Match Group.
Drennan Leicester Sensas were just three points off the top-three on 52 points. The Leicester squad had some consolation as team man Pete Scott won the match outright with a hard-earned 5.69kg bag from the Glebe Street section. That consisted of 131 roach and perch on bloodworm, joker and caster.
This year’s Winter League Final is on The Gloucester Canal on Saturday, 5th July.
