Avon/Quiver Combo Is A Success For Arjan

Arjan Snoeij has been having some great success with the Netherlands’ carp, bream and chub – and it’s all thanks to a very versatile rod!

“I was driven to catch some big chub this winter and the results were great!

“My rod choice was a Drennan Series 7 Specialist Avon/Quiver Combo 1 1/4lb test curve rod with the standard Avon tip section. This makes hitting chub bites very easy while the parabolic action also really helps when playing these big fish.

“The end tackle I used involved a 22g or 30g Feederbomb with a hooklength attached above it like a helicopter rig. This is the same setup I used for fishing for big bream in March and April. The rig was completed with a short fluorocarbon hooklength tied to a size 12 to 18 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

“For bream I use the normal Quiver top section, as it allows me to cast further and have some reserve power if necessary. This versatility is a great advantage in one rod!”

“Last weekend I also used a Specialist Avon/Quiver rod to catch a beautiful mirror carp. With snags and obstacles nearby, I opted for a more powerful 1 3/4lb test curve model, combined with a FD 4000 reel.

“Rather than legering, I chose to use a 1.2g Bobber float. Although this is primarily designed for flowing water, I find the smallest size is perfect for targeting big fish in clear stillwaters, as the body shape gives it plenty of stability in windy conditions. It’s nice to catch carp on the float and this combination certainly did the trick!”
