Young Joe Ryan, aged 14 from Biggleswade, has sent us some photos of recent Carp caught at his local Carpenters Lake in Gamblingay, Bedfordshire.

Joe likes to use his Red Range Carp Waggler 12ft float rod in conjunction with an Avanti Trinium centrepin reel to fish a loaded waggler at short range for the carp – a really good fun way to fish. Joe tells us his preferred mainline for the style is 5lb Supplex, and he uses Sweetcorn as hookbait and loose feed.

Since the river season ended Joe has caught Mirror and Common Carp to 9lb, plus the pretty 6lb Ghost Carp below.

The 9lb common took 10 minutes to land, it wouldn’t give up!” Joe told us.
