St Neots specialist Paul Elt with a 5lb 7oz Chub in the snow from the River Ivel – practicing what he’d preached in his “A Chub Midwinter” article in the January issue of Coarse Angling Today magazine!
In the article Paul discussed his approach to extreme cold weather Chub fishing – perfect timing (or a crystal ball!?) with the big freeze and heavy snowfall most of the UK in currently experiencing!
Paul ventured out at the weekend on his local River Ivel, and after patient feeding of a swim for nearly two hours, managed to get some Chub feeding. The effort was worthwhile, as he subsequently took a brace of 5lb Chub! He used a Drennan Matchpro Float 14ft rod and FD3000 reel, with 4.2lb Floatfish through to a 3lb Supplex hooklength – and a simple float rig with a Crystal Avon and Red Maggot hook, baited with maggots heavily flavoured in Dynamite Baits Redfish.
