We’re still seeing a few late Summer Tench – like this specimen caught and sent in by Mark Thomas from Burnham-On-Sea, Somerset.  Mark fished an estate lake with float-fishing tactics utilizing a Drennan Floatmaster Combo 13/15ft rod and a Series 7 Float 9-30 reel, and was delighted to record the new Personal Best fish at 8lb 4oz.

Mark used 4.6lb Series 7 Carp & Silverfish line with a 3gm Peacock Waggler, Stroff 0.14mm hooklength and a size 16 Red Maggot hook baited with a grain of sweetcorn – all positioned as tight as possible to a bed of Lily pads, classic tactics!  Mark remarked that he was fortunate that the Tench swam off out into open water on striking, before being eventually netted by his Dad after ‘one hell of a scrap’!
