South Wales specimen hunter and writer Terry ‘Theo’ Theobald has recently spent a day in search of grayling on the Timsbury stretch of the River Test.

With the conditions less than ideal, Terry was surprised that the grayling and trout played ball. His biggest grayling of the day went 1lb 14oz – nearly but not quite the 2lber he was hoping for.

“I always use a Matchpro Ultralight rod for this type of fishing, in conjunction with 3.2lb Float Fish line,” explained Terry. “A perfect combination for grayling, dace and roach on small rivers!”
