England ace Steve Hemingray won Round One of the Meadowlands Silverfish League at the weekend with a fine 34lb catch of skimmers.

On a day that saw the entire country hit hard by gale-force winds, the former European Champion opted for close-range feeder tactics to amass the winning bag. In fact, he used his wits and underarmed a feeder onto what would normally be his pole line!

“I used a 10ft Ultralight Bomb as I only fished around 14 metres out,” Steve explained. “I used 5lb Specimen Plus main line, a 0.10mm Double Strength hooklength and a size 16 Kamasan B911 F1 hook.

“Most of the fish were caught with double dead red maggots with groundbait, micro pellets and dead reds in the feeder.”
