Roger Marlow caught this glistening 25lb+ bag of fish yesterday on his local River Soar.
The England Veteran and Drennan Leicester team man was fishing a swim on the 1860s section of the Leicestershire river. After a few perch close in on bronze maggots he switched to fishing hempseed on the pole at eight and 13 metres.
“I set up a number of rigs but the best pattern was my heaviest setup, which was a 0.75g Drennan Trio,” he explained. “I managed a good run of fish with a positive bulk and just one dropper shot before having to string the shot out shirt-button style to keep bites coming later on.
“I used a size 16 Super Carbon Maggot hook to a 14oz (0.074mm) Double Strength hooklength and got through a pint of hemp.”
