Mark Boyd’s Specimen Isle of Man Mullet

Mark Boyd with a stunning specimen Mullet from the Isle of Man caught on a Drennan Compact Power Float 13ft rod!

Mark bagged this 5lb 14oz stunner whilst float fishing within an idyllic harbour on the island – a simple set up comprising a size 4 Kamasan B982 hook tied to a Drennan Double Strength 6lb monofilament hooklength and 8lb Supplex mainline.  A big lump of bread fished 3ft below a crystal waggler in 6ft of water induced the bite from the fish, and Mullet can be ludicrously picky and finicky feeders – before the fun really started!

“Without the ‘oompf’ of the Power Float rod I’d have honestly lost the fish.  I had to apply so much pressure to keep it from under the boats and ropes it was incredible!  Heart stopping stuff!  It took 15 minutes to get it to the net, partly due to having to climb down a harbour wall ladder, rod in mouth to land the fish from one of the boats.”

Great angling and a memorable capture, and a worthy credit to Mark’s wife Amanda for the excellent photograph!
