Surrey’s Dave Harman with a huge 10lb 9oz fish from his considerable back-catalogue of specimen Tench!
For our many younger readers, Dave won the Drennan Cup in 1999 having enjoyed a truly sensational 1998-99 season, catching several double figure Tench to 10lb 14oz, big Eels to over 7lb, plus specimen Perch and Bream!
Dave tells us the home counties water he’s fishing has a number of small Eels present – which makes maggots etc difficult to use. He’s therefore come up with this interesting rig to target the low head of big Tench, using a piece of breadflake as hookbait – a ploy he’s done well on in the past.
The rig incorporates a 50g Stainless Cage Feeder, with a length of ESP Anchor Rig Tube and a helicopter style hooklength from 15lb Gravel Braid to a size 12 Specimen Plus hook. Dave uses sections of 1.5mm Silicone tube to both trap the swivel and create an anti-tangle boom.
